Reflections

Buenos noches! We got home about an hour ago and everyone made it back safe and sound! The internet access at la posada wasn’t as dependable as in the past and free time was limited and spent playing cards mostly…so, in lieu of our failure to post during the week, I and hopefully the others, will fill in those of you who are interested in on what all went on. I’ll start with Saturday. We got to San Diego and met up with Adrian, John, and Susan at the airport, grabbed some lunch, then headed toward the border, giddy with excitement and sunshine. We were pretty fortunate and made it through in about 30 minutes and were on our way to base camp at La Posada! After we dropped off our stuff we hit the road again and drove to Peublo Nuevo to peruse the street market for blankets, silver bracelets, shot glasses, and anything else you could ever not really need. Bartering with the local women on a group rate for woven blankets, knowing we were probably getting ripped off, hearing others assure the vendors, ‘No soy Gringo’ (a.k.a. I know what I should really be paying for this). We breathed in the coastal air and watched a whale and some dolphins in the ocean and an breathtaking sunset over the water. We headed to El Nido restaurant for dinner, which was pretty cool- decorated like we were outside sitting amongst the palm trees, sipping margaritas and cervezas, eating our first of many truly authentic Mexican meals. Full and tired, John manned the wheel in our white giant of a van and got lost in downtown Tijuana on our way back, leaving us more than ready for sleep upon our eventual return. The three hour time change left me awake before 7am the following day, but was a perfect start to Sunday as I sat on the patio listening to the symphony of birds, a horse whinnying somewhere close by, and the occasional sound of a string of Spanish words shouted out by someone outside of the Posada gates. A great start to a great day.
